Donovan Unleashes His Message of Peace at El Rey Benefiting David Lynch Foundation

Donovan Lietch, known to millions for his songs inspiring peace, recently headlined at the El Rey Theatre, singing many of his past hits, such as Mellow Yellow, Cosmic Wheels, and Season of the Witch, along with his new songs, including Try for the Sun.

Many musicians and singers were at the concert benefiting David Lynch Foundation. David Lynch himself introduced Donovan. Bonnie Pointer, Leon Hendrix, brother of Jimmy Hendrix, and The Chambers Brothers were among some of celebrities who were there to support Donovan and the foundation.

Donovan has just completed Beat Café, a new box set Try for the Sun: the Journey of Donovan and a book The Autobiography of Donovan; The Hurdy Gurdy Man, distributed by Arrow Books.

Also, Donovan was one of the few artists to collaborate with on songs with Beatles Paul McCarthy, John Lennon and George Harrison.

Currently, Donovan heads the musical wing of David Lynch Foundation, fulfilling his 40-year dedication in Transcendental Meditation(TM). Donovan, his wife Linda, Paul McCartney and Ringo Star are promoting TM throughout the world. As a songwriter and poet, Donovan was one of the forerunners who encouraged a resurgence of the peace movement in the eighties.

David Lynch Foundation was founded by filmmaker, David Lynch in July 2005. A 501[c] [3] organization, the David Lynch Foundation was established to fund the implementation of scientifically proven stress-reducing modalities, including the TM  technique, for at risk populations, including underserved inner-city students; American Indians suffering from diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and high suicide rates; soldiers with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD); homeless men striving to overcome addictions by participating in reentry programs; and incarcerated juveniles and adults.

David Lynch has been using the technique of TM for thirty-five years his Foundation has had an over-whelming success, where a number of schools in San Francisco have included  TM in there curriculum. David Lynch Foundation also funds university and medical school research to assess the effects of the program on academic performance, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and other learning disorders, anxiety, depression, substance abuse cardiovascular disease, post-traumatic stress disorder diabetes.

It is the vision of Mr. Lynch to have every school in America use TM as part of their curriculum. The Foundation has already provided over 100,000 scholarships for students for students to learn the TM technique, as well as inmates and guards in prisons, formerly homeless men in re-entry programs, and soldiers with PTSD returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and American Indians suffering from diabetes. Always striving for the latest scientific methods, the effectiveness of the Foundation’s programs has been researched at leading medical schools, including Harvard Medical School, Stanford Medical School and Yale Medical School.
